Position Overview:

Performs diagnostic cardiac sonography procedures of high complexity to assess cardiac structures and hemodynamics in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with policies, values and mission of the organization. Responsible for all commonly performed echocardiography procedures in the department with a high level of competence.

In addition to those performed by Levels I & II, performs:
- adult congenital heart echocardiograms
- cardiac research projects

May also be responsible for performing specific procedures and/or orient other staff to the department.

Job Description:

EDUCATION

  • Graduation from an accredited Cardiac Sonography Program

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE

  • BLS-HP Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers

Two certifications from the following:

  • CCI RCS-Registered Cardiac Sonographer
  • CCI -ACS - Advanced Cardiac Sonographer
  • ARDMS RDCS(AE) - Adult
  • ARDMS RDCS (PE) - Pediatric
  • ARDMS RDCS (FE) - Fetal
  • ARDMS RVT - Registered Vascular Technologist

EXPERIENCE

  • 5 years experience in the acquisition and post processing of high complexity three dimensional imaging and Strain imaging.
  • 5 years experience in imaging pre and post structural heart transthoracic echocardiograms, left ventricular assist device and extracorporeal life support imaging, cardiac transplant patients, adult congenital heart patients and involvement in cardiac research projects that incorporate echocardiography
  • 5 years experience in an accredited Cardiac Sonography Program

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Advanced knowledge of diagnostic cardiac sonography principles, procedures, views, and equipment, including substantial experience responding to traumas, code blues, medical alerts, STAT calls, and various hospital emergencies.
  • Skilled in performing cardiac sonographic examinations with an extensive understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology so as to recognize, prioritize and communicate suspicious or abnormal results.
  • Possess written and verbal communications skills to explain sensitive information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences, including non-medical people.
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize assignments and work within standardized operating procedures and scientific methods to achieve objectives and meet deadline
  • Robust knowledge of computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook) and related information systems (Radiology (RIS), laboratory (LIS), electronic health records (EHR), EPIC, and picture archive and communication system (PACS).
  • Prioritize activities and work within defined policies, procedures, and practices to achieve objectives and meet deadlines; help determine appropriate approach for new assignments
  • Work independently, as well as be part of the team, including accomplishing multiple tasks in an environment with interruptions.
  • Use experience and existing precedents or procedures to resolve atypical or infrequent problems; provide informal guidance and support to junior team members.
  • Ensure the privacy of each patient's PHI.
  • Build collaborate relationships with peers and other healthcare providers to achieve departmental and corporate objectives
